Former dual All Australian Kane Cornes<\/a> has uncovered some worrying signs looming over Sydney Swans spearhead Lance Franklin that might suggest the seventh-greatest goal-kicker in history is "coming to the end pretty quickly".<\/p>\n

The four-time Coleman medallist was kept goalless for the first time since the Swans' 2018 elimination final in Sydney's nine-point loss to Melbourne at the MCG on Saturday<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But rather than pointing out Franklin's failure to bag a major in the Demons clash, Cornes drew viewers to footage that indicated the future Australian football hall of fame legend had lost penetration in his legendary left boot.<\/p>\n

"He looks injured to me, or looks at times to be coming to the end pretty quickly. There were two examples of this (in the Melbourne game)," Cornes said on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"He's only played the 14 games in the last three years, so he's hardly played, so it's hard to judge. But when has Buddy never made the distance from 52 metres out at the MCG? It's never really happened. He's never had a problem with his penetration. He's looking to pass the ball off and this one – this is Buddy's spot (50-metre arc on the left-hand boundary) … Of his 955 goals a significant portion has come from this spot. He doesn't even have a shot from 50 metres out.<\/p>\n<\/p>\n

"So something is clearly up with his body for a man who's perhaps been the most hungry to – if that's the nice way to put it – pass the ball off in that situation."<\/p>\n

In defence of Franklin, he was contending with wet conditions and had missed the previous three games due to a knee injury.<\/p>\n

The 34-year-old had also booted 11 goals across his first three games of the season – in rounds two, four and five – including a haul of five majors in the Sydney derby at the SCG in round five.<\/p>\n

Swans coach John Longmire has also regularly praised Franklin as an exceptional mentor to the club's young forwards, such as Will Hayward, Nick Blakey, Ben Ronke and Logan McDonald.<\/p>\n

Franklin is in the second-last year of his blockbuster $10 million, nine-year deal, which he signed at the end of 2013 after nine seasons with Hawthorn.<\/p>\n
