Wallabies young gun Harry Wilson has pleaded with Australian fans to rally behind Dave Rennie despite his underwhelming first campaign at the helm<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The New Zealand-born coach, who landed the Wallabies' coaching gig in November 2019 but didn't oversee his first Test until October due to COVID-19, has a record of one win from six matches after the Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations tournaments.<\/p>\n

Beyond Rennie's solitary 24-22 victory over the All Blacks<\/a>, the former Glasgow Warriors mentor has registered two losses and three draws.<\/p>\n

The ugliest result was a 43-5 shellacking at the hands of New Zealand<\/a>.<\/p>\n

But Wilson, who made his Wallabies debut in Rennie's first Test in charge, has urged fans to show faith.<\/p>\n

"I've loved playing under Dave. He's been really positive and he just wants us to continue to improve and keep developing as a group," Wilson told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"The results this year haven't been the best but we all know where we're going because Dave is loved by the whole playing group, he's well respected and we know he's got a plan that will definitely succeed."<\/p>\n

Rennie is contracted to lead the Wallabies until the end of the 2023 Rugby World Cup, set to be hosted by France.<\/p>\n

But attention is about to shift to domestic rugby, with the Wallabies set to return to their respective Super Rugby AU clubs ahead of the February 19 season kick-off.<\/p>\n

Wilson says Rennie hopes his troops use the domestic competition as a launchpad for the return of Test rugby.<\/p>\n

"I know as a group we're going to keep developing and getting better – and that's the main thing," Wilson said.<\/p>\n

"Next thing we've got is Super Rugby and we're going to go out there to try to develop as footy players and do our best to win the competition. I know if we can do that we'll only be better as players, and that will help us improve as Wallabies as well."<\/p>\n

Wilson said one of Rennie's chief focuses was celebrating culture, a trait that shone through as the Wallabies performed Advance Australia Fair<\/em> ahead of their clash with Argentina on Saturday night<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Not only were Michael Hooper, James Slipper, Rob Simmons and a long list of other Australia-born Wallabies selected for the 2020 squad, but a host of players from overseas.<\/p>\n

Filipo Daugunu hails from Fiji, Pone Fa'amausili from Samoa, Taniela Tupou from Tonga and Brandon Paenga-Amosa from New Zealand.<\/p>\n

Wilson says Rennie has a knack of galvanising the multicultural mix<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"One of his biggest strengths is his ability to bring the group so close together," Wilson said.<\/p>\n

"He knew we were going to be away for three months and we have a lot of different cultures in our team, so in camp every night he got us to do a Fijian hymn, Tongan hymn, Samoan hymn or a Cook Islands hymn, or our Australian song. It was really special to connect with all different cultures."<\/p>\n
