BCCI boss Sourav Ganguly<\/a> has revealed the staggering cost if the IPL can't be completed later this year.<\/p>\n

The tournament was suspended earlier this week<\/a> in the wake of positive COVID-19 tests inside the IPL bubble, including former Australian batsman Mike Hussey.<\/a><\/p>\n

The BCCI is now trying to find a window in the international calendar to finish the tournament, with one possibility emerging that it could be played in England in late September.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the Telegraph, Ganguly said the crowded calendar prior will make it difficult to reschedule, with the T20 World Cup due to be played in October.<\/p>\n

"There has got to be a lot of shuffling," he said.<\/p>\n

"We have to speak to other boards and see if a window can be made available before the T20 World Cup. Lot of things are involved and we will slowly start working on them.<\/p>\n

"If we fail to complete the IPL, the loss will be close to ($436 million). That is going by early estimates."<\/p>\n

Ganguly acknowledged the decision to play the tournament in multiple locations around India may have been a mistake, with the COVID-19 infections occurring after teams moved cities.<\/p>\n

When the IPL was played in the UAE in 2020, there was no domestic air travel involved.<\/p>\n

All of this came as the number of daily cases in India topped 400,000.<\/p>\n

"I really don't know what led to this situation inside the biosecurity bubble. We will have to do a post-mortem and look into the reasons behind this," Ganguly explained.<\/p>\n

"But travelling could have been an issue.<\/p>\n

\"Former<\/p>\n

"Last year in the UAE, everything was restricted to three venues and within a limited area. There was no air travel involved. Here we had six different venues.<\/p>\n

"You also have to look at the situation around the country. The way the number of people are getting affected on a daily basis is total madness. No one knows what is going to happen tomorrow. Things have gone out of control for everyone."<\/p>\n

All Australian players and staff, with the exception of Hussey, have now traveled to the Maldives,<\/a> where they'll remain until they can return to Australia.<\/p>\n

ESPNCricinfo reports that the tournament could be finished in England in September, with Lord's, the Oval and Edgbaston the likely venues, after a number of counties wrote to the ECB offering to host the games.<\/p>\n
