Super Rugby teams and officials will be nervously monitoring the latest COVID-19 developments after New Zealand paused its quarantine-free travel bubble with New South Wales on Thursday.<\/a><\/p>\n

Flights from NSW will be suspended for 48 hours from midnight following the detection of two mysterious community cases in Sydney.<\/p>\n

NZ's COVID-19 response minister Chris Hipkins said the government would then either lift the travel restrictions or extend them, depending on how the situation unfolds.<\/p>\n

The news is yet another curveball for Super Rugby, which is due to kick off its first ever trans-Tasman competition on May 14.<\/p>\n

The Hurricanes are set to cross the ditch for a clash with the Waratahs at the Sydney Cricket Ground that night and a SANZAAR spokesperson said there were no planned changes to the schedule at this point.<\/p>\n

The other round one games are Highlanders-Reds in Dunedin, Crusaders-Brumbies in Christchurch, Rebels-Blues in Melbourne and Force-Chiefs in Perth.<\/p>\n

The Kiwi teams aren't due to arrive in Australia until next week but it will be a stressful few days for stakeholders.<\/p>\n

Before the travel bubble pause, Wallabies coach Dave Rennie – a New Zealander – spoke of his excitement at resuming trans-Tasman competition.<\/p>\n

"We've got the luxury of watching trans-Tasman games over the next 5-6 weeks so that will give us a good indication of the shifts we need to make prior to Bledisloe Cup games," Rennie said.<\/p>\n

"That's what we're excited about \u2013 I know all the teams are excited to test themselves against the New Zealand teams.<\/p>\n
