The Warrnambool jumps carnival has been marred by the death of yet another horse, the seventh since 2016.\n<\/p>\n
Fulmineus, an 11-year-old gelding, fell during a steeplechase race on Wednesday and suffered fatal injuries.\n<\/p>\n
The horse was attended to immediately by the veterinarian on hand, but was unable to be saved, although its jockey, Ross O'Sullivan, escaped without injuries.<\/p>\n
Racing Victoria confirmed the news in a statement and expressed its condolences to the horse's trainers and owners.<\/p>\n
"The racing incident been referred to the Jumps Review Panel to consider the circumstances and any potential safety enhancements," the statement read, in part.<\/p>\n

"In addition, a post-mortem will be performed on the horse at the University of Melbourne Veterinary Clinic, as is standard practice.<\/p>\n
"RV extends its condolences to the owners of Fulmineus, his trainer Shayne Fisher and his stable staff, who cared for the horse and are saddened by their loss."<\/p>\n
Fulmineus joins Tuscan Fire and Cliff's Dream (2016), Bring Back (2017), Now And Zen (2018), Blues Breaker (2019) and Sir Isaac Newton (2020) as the latest horses to succumb to Warrnambool.\n<\/p>\n
Fulmineus' death comes after he made a return to racing last month following a 10-month layoff due to an injury to his near off foreleg.<\/p>\n
