Paul Gallen has fired back at fight promoter Dean Lonergan who branded the NRL great a "circus fighting bum" ahead of a looming superfight with his boxing prodigy Justis Huni.<\/a><\/p>\n

As Gallen eyes the biggest test of his boxing career in the form of undefeated 22-year-old Australian Olympic hopeful Huni, Lonergan launched a pointed tirade at the Sharks premiership-winner, savaging his ability in the ring.<\/p>\n

"At the end of the day Gallen is nothing more than a circus fighting bum I'm going to be feeding to the beast that is Justis Huni. And this is the most stupid decision he could have made for his personal health," Lonergan told Wide World of Sports earlier today.<\/p>\n

"This is going to be a long drawn out beat-down over four or five rounds. Paul Gallen is going to question the sanity of getting in the ring with this guy."<\/p>\n

Never one to take a backward step, Gallen fired straight back at the promoter, promising to help him find a job once he puts Huni out of business.<\/p>\n

"What I want to say back to Dean is, when I beat your prodigy what's left for you?" Gallen said on WWOS Radio on 2GB.<\/p>\n

"I know him and Matt Rose don't get on, but I get on well with Matt Rose. I might be able to get a job for you with Matt for a little while, mate, because you're going to need it.<\/p>\n

"I'm pretty sure Jeff Horn is finished and obviously Huni is your next big thing, your next prospect. If I beat him, if he gets beaten by the footy player, what's left for you?"<\/p>\n

Gallen also shrugged off suggestions around his ability as a boxer, pointing to his undefeated record regardless of who was put in front of him.<\/p>\n

"He called me a bum? I've been called everything in my entire career but I don't think I've ever been called a bum. I wouldn't consider myself a bum," Gallen said.<\/p>\n

"It's just one of those things in boxing, people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones.<\/p>\n

"Here I am a footy player converting to boxing. Everyone I fight is never good enough. Now, I'm fighting the prodigy of Australian boxing and they're calling me a bum. Everyone was going to kill me. I think I was a $5 shot against Mark Hunt.<\/p>\n

"People in boxing are allowed to fight bums, so to speak, easy beats as they say, but I can't fight a bum, which I never have anyway. People in glass houses. It becomes frustrating.<\/p>\n

"It doesn't matter how old I am, It's how old I feel. He (Huni) hasn't fought anyone like me, he hasn't fought anyone who's going to put pressure on him. He hasn't fought anyone that isn't intimidated by him before he gets into the ring."<\/p>\n

Gallen also quelled hysteria over the looming matchup, assuring the fight was still a ways from legally being agreed to.<\/p>\n

"There's still a bit to go. People talk about it like it's done. It's not a done deal," Gallen said.<\/p>\n

"They're trying to make me transfer it to Brisbane or Queensland now, which is not going to happen. It's going to happen in Sydney, or it won't happen.<\/p>\n

"Now, I've agreed to the fight but it's up in the air because they're hard to deal with."<\/p>\n
