Karachi: The Indian Premier League’s (IPL) 14th edition has been hit by novel coronavirus after two players tested positive during routine testing.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The two players who have returned COVID-19 positive are Kolkata\u00a0Knight Riders’ spinner Varun Chakravarthy and seam bowler Sandeep Warrier.<\/p>\n

According to ESPNCricinfo, the COVID-19 burst in\u00a0IPL’s biosecure bubble after\u00a0Chakravarthy recently left\u00a0to carry out a scan on his shoulder and that is where he might have been exposed to the virus.<\/p>\n

As a consequence, today’s match between\u00a0Kolkata\u00a0Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore has been rescheduled.<\/p>\n

On the other hand, three members of the Chennai Super Kings’ contingent also returned positive for COVID-19.\u00a0\u00a0Chief executive officer K Viswanathan, bowling coach L Balaji and a bus cleaner have tested positive for the virus.<\/p>\n

It must be noted that\u00a0India on Monday reported more than 300,000 (overall 19.93 million) new coronavirus cases for a 12th straight day, taking its overall caseload to just shy of 20 million, while deaths from Covid-19 rose by 3,417 (overall 218,959).<\/p>\n

Remember, ICC is also concerned over the deteriorating situation of COVID-19 in India as they are scheduled to host the T20 World Cup later this year. The competition may relocate to United Arab Emirates (UAE).<\/p>\n
