Queensland are still on a high after winning the unwinnable State of Origin series<\/a>, and word is things are about to get a whole lot better for the Maroons in 2021.<\/p>\n

With international league virtually ground to a halt in the immediate future due to COVID-19, Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga is looking for something to do – and has been discussed as the perfect addition to Wayne Bennett's staff next season.<\/p>\n

Meninga is the winningest coach in Queensland history, taking the Maroons to nine Origin titles between 2006 and 2015 and triumphing in 20 of his 30 games as coach – before assisting Bennett with this year's boilover series victory.<\/p>\n

The former Canberra star is regarded as a God-like figure north of the Tweed and would add great confidence and belief to the young Maroons team again next season.<\/p>\n

ACT OF DISRESPECT TOWARDS EX-TITANS COACH<\/strong><\/h2>\n

More stories continue to emerge about how poorly former Titans coach Garth Brennan was treated by his senior players before being punted midway through 2019.<\/p>\n

The Sun Herald<\/em> recently revealed that players disrespected Brennan but officials decided it would be easier to sack the coach than get the players to toe the line.<\/p>\n

A Titans insider has told me that after the players defied Brennan to go on a night out after a heavy loss, he called the senior leadership group in.<\/p>\n

He asked them to write down what needed to happen for the club to do better.<\/p>\n

Responses – which were anonymous – included 'make training shorter', 'have more piss-ups' and 'do more drugs'.<\/p>\n

The club was aware of the incident at the time – but chose to sack Brennan rather than hold the players accountable.<\/p>\n

It's a sad indictment on the modern game and how clubs operate – but also an indication of what a fine coach Justin Holbrook is that he has been able to turn that mess around.<\/p>\n

The Titans finished this year strongly, have bought well and to me, look good things to make the top eight in 2021.<\/p>\n

TIGERS POACH TALENTED AUCKLAND TRIO<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Wests Tigers have raided the Warriors' heartland, signing three fine young prospects from Auckland.<\/p>\n

All 18, Jarney Proctor (hooker\/halfback), Tamehana Paruru (back-rower) and Tray Lolesio (prop) are Aucklands Manurewa Marlins juniors and had several NRL clubs on their trail.<\/p>\n

But the trio decided their best chance of a pathway to the NRL was with the Tigers and will link up with the club in coming weeks for pre-season training.<\/p>\n

All are probably 12 months or more off breaking into the NRL but have the talent to be great buys for the club in the long term.<\/p>\n

DOOR SHUT ON BULLDOGS RECRUITMENT<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Andrew Johns gave the Bulldogs some free advice a while back: sign Warrington Wolves hooker Daryl Clark<\/a> to solve your dummy-half woes.<\/p>\n

An England international and talented ball worker from dummy-half, Clark would be ideal for the Dogs, who have had problems in the No.9 jumper in recent years.<\/p>\n

But I've contacted Warrington and they have no intention of releasing Clark, one of the best players on their roster.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs have bought plenty of talent for next season but without a quality hooker, Trent Barrett's squad will struggle.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
