Geelong coach Chris Scott<\/a> says he expects the AFL to admit the umpires made an error in the final seconds of the Cats' loss to Sydney by not awarding Jeremy Cameron<\/a> a mark.<\/p>\n

Cameron thought he had marked the ball just metres out from Geelong's goal in the dying seconds of Sydney's 14. 6. (90) to 13. 10. (88) win<\/a> at the SCG, only for the umpire to call play on due to his belief that the ball did not travel the required distance.<\/p>\n

The Cats star was left stunned by the decision as the Swans held on for a thrilling victory, with the siren sounding just six seconds after the contentions non-call.<\/p>\n

While Scott believed the umpires had made the incorrect decision, he expressed sympathy for the officials.<\/p>\n

"I've looked at the vision and it's clear it did (travel 15 metres), but it's a different perspective for the umpire," he said.<\/p>\n

"He can't go back and replay the vision. They're tough calls. The deliberate out of bounds, that's a hard call as well, there's pressure on everyone. <\/p>\n

"I suspect they'll have a look at it and go, 'The Swans made some blues early, the Cats made some blues after that and we might've made some blues as well', that's the game unfortunately."<\/p>\n

Scott's view was backed up by AFL great Jordan Lewis, who told Fox Footy that the kick to Cameron was "nearly 20 metres", while Bulldogs legend Brad Johnson called the decision "borderline", but admitted he'd "seen them paid". <\/p>\n

The 15-metre call was not the only contentious call in the final seconds, with Geelong captain Joel Selwood left incensed on the siren after the umpires refused to pay a free kick for holding the ball after Swans youngster James Rowbottom dived on the ball as the siren went.<\/p>\n

"If it had've been 10 seconds left in the game, that's holding the ball. They were saved by the bell. He would've known how long was left," Johnson said.<\/p>\n

"It was smart from Rowbottom because he knew he had to hold the ball in," Lewis added.<\/p>\n

"If it had've come out, it gives Geelong an opportunity to have a shot at goal, so he ran the risk to hold the ball in and it paid off."<\/p>\n

The two calls threatened to overshadow what was an incredibly gutsy win by an undermanned Swans side, who found themselves 29 points down in the first half. <\/p>\n

Geelong led by 10 points in the final quarter before the Swans kicked the final two goals of the match, including the match-winner from Tom Papley inside the final two minutes. <\/p>\n

The Swans were led by ruckman Tom Hickey who continued his sensational season with 20 disposals and 23 hitouts, while Oliver Florent added 26 disposals and two goals. <\/p>\n

In the absence of Lance Franklin and Logan McDonald up forward, Hayden McLean proved to be the hero for Sydney with four straight goal, while Papley added two majors. <\/p>\n

Geelong skipper Joel Selwood was excellent again with 29 disposals in the loss, while Cam Guthrie (30 disposals) and Mitch Duncan (29 disposals) continued their sensational form. <\/p>\n

Star recruit Jeremy Cameron kicked three goals in his second game for his new club, while Gary Rohan and Bradley Close were the other multiple goalkickers for Geelong.<\/p>\n

Geelong has a tough task on its hands next week with a grand final rematch with Richmond on deck on Friday night, while Sydney will face the ladder-leading Melbourne at the MCG on Satuday night.<\/p>\n
