In the days before Canelo Alvarez's 2018 fight against Rocky Fielding in New York, the boxing superstar had to negotiate the release of one of his brothers on the phone, who had been kidnapped in Mexico.<\/p>\n

The highest-paid active fighter made the claims during an interview on "In Depth with Graham Bensinger".<\/p>\n
"In 2018, the Monday before the fight, and I was always on the phone. … I negotiated everything for his release," the Mexican star said.<\/p>\n
"For three days I negotiated with [the kidnappers] to get them to release him.<\/p>\n
"After I negotiated his release, I was still thinking, imagine if it was my daughter, or my mum or my dad, it would have been even more difficult for me. And on top of that, I had the fight on Saturday, and I had to do a thousand interviews [for the fight].<\/p>\n
"And nobody knew about it. I would tell my cousin, say this [to the kidnappers], and my cousin would tell me, [the kidnappers] sent this, and I would say, tell them this."<\/p>\n

Alvarez (55-1-2, 37 KOs) also made the stunning claim that he opted not to go to authorities because he suspected some members of the police force were involved.<\/p>\n
He called the situation one of the most difficult moments of his life because my brother "is everything to me."<\/p>\n
Remarkably, Alavarez went on to beat Fielding via third round KO after he knocked down his opponent down four times.<\/p>\n
The Mexican great will attempt to unify the super middleweight division when he takes on Billy Joe Saunders (30-0, 14 KOs) at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas on May 8.<\/p>\n
