Rising star Cameron Green has given "the perfect interview" for a Test debut, stroking a classy century for Australia A against the Indians.<\/p>\n
Competing for a spot in Australia's middle order, the tall 21-year-old all-rounder oozed class with 114 not out against a quality attack featuring Ravichandran Ashwin, Kuldeep Yadav and Umesh Yadav.<\/p>\n
Green is in Australia's 17-man Test squad but before this knock was considered unlikely to feature in the series opener in Adelaide on December 17.<\/p>\n
Incumbent No 6 Matthew Wade is in good touch himself but the selectors must be getting seriously tempted to unleash Green, who also bowls 140kph with steepling bounce.<\/p>\n

"Gee, this is the perfect interview for the Test match No 6 position," former Test leg-spinner Kerry O'Keeffe said on Fox Cricket.<\/p>\n
"However, the incumbent has been part of winning teams last year – Australia unbeaten in five Tests.<\/p>\n
"Do you back the incumbent or do you back the future?<\/p>\n
"They're going to have to make that decision."<\/p>\n
Asked what had impressed him most about the West Australian's play at Sydney's Drummoyne Oval, O'Keeffe peeled off a long list of attributes.<\/p>\n
"His compactness, his front and back foot play.<\/p>\n
"His low false shot percentage, despite being dropped twice.<\/p>\n

"He's played the shots he wants to play.<\/p>\n
"He's a noted puller\/hooker but he's only played one or two.<\/p>\n
"So much to like – his weight transfer.<\/p>\n
"The nimbleness of his feet against the slow bowling, because at six foot six you'd think he'd be a little sluggish – no way…<\/p>\n
"A star of Australian cricket has arrived."<\/p>\n
Speaking before Monday's innings, Test great Ian Chappell said he would be "tempted"<\/a> to play Green in the Adelaide pink ball Test, but didn't think the selectors would.<\/p>\n "But what I'd be looking at is the Sydney Test for Green," Chappell said.<\/p>\n "Down the line Green will probably be in the in top four, and bowl just a little bit.<\/p>\n "He's probably going to become a Mark Waugh, before he hurt his back, someone who's mainly there for his batting but who can give you a few handy overs."<\/p>\n Green made his ODI debut last week<\/a>, scoring 21 and bowling four overs (0-27).<\/p>\n Green brought up three figures with a textbook cover drive off Umesh Yadav (3-43), bowling with the second new ball.<\/p>\n He hit 10 fours and a six in his 173 balls as Australia A reached 8-286 at stumps in reply to the Indians' 9-247 declared.<\/p>\n While Green starred on day two of the tour match, Australia's likely Test opening pair of Joe Burns and Will Pucovski were both dismissed cheaply.<\/a><\/p>\n Test captain Tim Paine chipped in with 44 in a partnership of 104 with Green.<\/p>\n We may be seeing more of that in the very near future.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<\/p>\n
