It received backlash from Aboriginal sports stars Anthony Mundine and Latrell Mitchell<\/a>, but Wallabies young gun Harry Wilson has joined the overwhelming chorus lauding Saturday night's historic rendition of the Australian national anthem.<\/p>\n

In an unprecedented moment for top-level Australian sport, the Wallabies sung Advance Australia Fair<\/em> in a first-nations language ahead of their Tri-Nations clash with Argentina at Bankwest Stadium<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Sixteen-year-old Wiradjuri woman Olivia Fox, a student of Newtown Performing Arts School, led the rendition in the Eora language before repeating the anthem in English.<\/p>\n

Wilson joined the likes of Wallabies great Matt Giteau, Australian Paralympian Richard Colman and Samoa international Paul Alo-Emile in praising the moment.<\/p>\n

"It was really special," Wilson told Wide World of Sports<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"I know it excited everyone and we all took a real responsibility to learn all the words and pretty much get it perfect.<\/p>\n

"We knew it would be a special occasion to be able to sing in the Eora language.<\/p>\n

"It's been well received which is quite nice because we were wearing our Indigenous jerseys and we were trying to do it proud."<\/p>\n

Wilson said Wallabies coach Dave Rennie, who oversaw his first Test match in the opening Bledisloe Cup fixture on October 11, had made a concerted effort to celebrate culture.<\/p>\n

The 21-year-old back-rower said the Kiwi mentor had even introduced to the Wallabies' camp a nightly rendition of a Fijian, Samoan, Tongan or Cook Islands hymn, or a performance of the Australian national anthem.<\/p>\n

"Obviously we are a very multicultural group and that is something we're really proud of," Wilson said.<\/p>\n

"So he makes everyone enjoy each other's songs and he really encourages getting around everyone for who we are."<\/p>\n

The Wallabies rounded out their Tri-Nations campaign with a 16-all draw with the Pumas.<\/p>\n
