Craig Fitzgibbon is closing in on his first big signing as an NRL coach<\/a>, with Adam Reynolds<\/a> reportedly set to ink a three-year deal with the Sharks.<\/p>\n

Fox Sports reports that Reynolds has met with Fitzgibbon<\/a> this week and that the star halfback is ready to sign with the Sharks on a deal worth $2.4 million.<\/p>\n

The $800,000-a-season deal would see the goalkicking No.7 through until his 34th birthday and keep him in Sydney, a key point for the family man who was born and bred in the Redfern area.<\/p>\n

It's that connection with the heartland of South Sydney that has made this whole saga difficult to grapple with for Rabbitohs fans.<\/p>\n

Reynolds, the club captain, made it clear that it was his preference to stay, yet management were unwilling to budge on a one-year deal.<\/p>\n

It was that difference of opinion that could ultimately cost the Rabbitohs a club legend and it looms as a huge coup for the Sharks, who just last week lost Chad Townsend to the Cowboys for next season.<\/p>\n

Should Reynolds confirm his departure as expected, South Sydney will most likely turn to young guns Lachlan Ilias and Blake Taafe to partner Cody Walker in the halves.<\/p>\n

According to the Fox Sports report, the Sharks are also closing in on finalising negotiations with utility player Connor Tracey \u2013 whose versatility and energy has been a standout for the club this season.<\/p>\n

There is still much to play out for the Sharks' 2021 roster, with the likes of Shaun Johnson, Josh Dugan, Matt Moylan and Aaron Woods uncontracted beyond this season.<\/p>\n
