Bulldogs chairman John Khoury has shut down any suggestions Penrith's Matt Burton will pull a contract backflip on the club.<\/p>\n

Canterbury's hopes of a smooth welcoming for Burton became more unlikely on Friday after Penrith chief executive Brian Fletcher revealed he hopes the young gun backflips on his deal with the Bulldogs for next year<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Burton, 22, is expected to join Canterbury in 2022 after signing a three-year deal with the club earlier this year.<\/p>\n

The Bulldogs chairman today responded to the comments made by the Panthers boss, declaring there's no chance Burton will be a Panther next season.<\/p>\n

"He's not backflipping, he's contracted to us next year," Khoury told the Sydney Morning Herald.<\/a><\/p>\n

"We're happy he's playing really good football and we're looking forward to welcoming him to the club.<\/p>\n

"I'm sure Penrith are disappointed he's not staying, but he's coming to us.<\/p>\n

"I won't talk about what's happened at our club in the past; we're moving forward and we have a plan.<\/p>\n

According to the Sydney Morning Herald's Michael Chammas<\/a>, the Panthers believe the gun five-eighth, who's played the past four games for the club at centre, is now having second thoughts about departing Penrith at the end of the year despite having a contract signed for next season with the Bulldogs.<\/p>\n

The report also states Burton's contract is rumoured to be worth $450,000 in 2022 and $500,000 in 2023, which is less than what he could've signed for, with the belief he could've demanded in excess of $700,000-a-season had he not rushed his contract talks.<\/p>\n

It's understood he was urged by coach Ivan Cleary to back himself and wait over the opening two months of the season before signing a contract.<\/p>\n
