Ironwoman sensation Georgia Miller is well poised to defend her Australian surf life saving ironwoman title after today dominating the semi-finals to book her spot in Saturday's final on the Sunshine Coast.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Miller was unable to defend her crown in 2020 after the Aussies was cancelled due to COVID-19.<\/p>\n

While it's been two years since she won her maiden Aussies ironwoman title, Miller said the anticipation had been building.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"It's amazing to be back on the beach at Aussies," Miller said.<\/p>\n

"It's the pinnacle of our sport so to miss it last year was really tough. But it's great to be back."<\/p>\n

The Australian surf life saving championships run from April 16-24, with the elite competitors averaging 12 races a day as they battle qualifying rounds and take part in individual and team events in a bid for national glory.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Miller has her sights firmly set on a second national ironwoman title.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

"We've got a big few days coming up so hopefully I can keep the momentum going," Miller said.<\/p>\n

"I've just got to make sure I'm recovering well so that I'm ready to race at all times.<\/p>\n

"To go back-to-back would be incredible. But in saying that, I haven't really taken much time to think about it yet. I've just been taking it one day at a time."<\/p>\n

It's an all-star field in the ironwoman event, with former Australian ironwoman champions Lana Rogers and Courtney Hancock and former under-19 Australian ironwoman champion Lizzie Wellborn among the final field.<\/p>\n

Miller had worked for many years toward winning the Australian ironwoman crown, taking out the junior title twice before she made it to opens.<\/p>\n

She says the Aussies for any surf life saving clubby is the pinnacle of the sport.\u00a0<\/p>\n

"I remember when I did my first Aussies as a junior, and watching the open ironwoman and being in such awe. It's the blue ribbon of our sport along with the Taplin Relay," Miller said.<\/p>\n

"It means so much to me that I've been able to win one, and it almost eases the pressure a little. But I'd love to go back-to-back. That would be so special."<\/p>\n

In the ironman final it will be reigning ironman champion Ali Day who'll be the one to beat as he aims to take out his first-ever Australian ironman crown, the only title to have eluded him throughout his career.\u00a0<\/p>\n

He'll come up against tough competition when he lines up alongside former ironman series champions Matt Bevilacqua and Matt Poole.<\/p>\n
