NSW coach Brad Fittler has cast a curious eye over Newcastle's 17<\/a> picked for tonight's clash with the Panthers<\/a>, warning coach Adam O'Brien he is playing with fire with a four-forward bench rotation.<\/p>\n

Fittler's assessment followed last week's heroics from young second-rower Brodie Jones who gave a match-defining performance filling in at right centre after Hymel Hunt hobbled off with a hamstring injury in the seventh minute.<\/p>\n

In his 73 minutes on the field against the Sharks, Jones ran 11 times for 106 metres and made a line break, three tackle breaks and 24 tackles, and was never too far from the plays that mattered.<\/p>\n

He also scored a try and played a crucial role in two others, including Kalyn Ponga's match-winner as Newcastle stole victory from the Sharks late in the match, in a 26-22 thriller<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old's head-turning performance out of position may have given O'Brien the comfort he needed to persevere with his four-forward bench strategy – but Fittler wasn't so sure.<\/p>\n

"One thing I did notice with the Knights is they've got all forwards on the bench," Fittler told Andrew Johns for Freddy & Joey's Tips<\/em><\/a>.<\/p>\n

"I know Brodie Jones did a good job at centre last week but if you want to take a lesson, take it off Penrith when they played Tyrone May in the centres in the semi (last season) and then took him into the grand final. It doesn't always work."<\/p>\n

Johns added that should he have to repeat his effort filling in at right centre tonight, he would be in for a completely different experience defending one of the most lethal edges in the competition.<\/p>\n

"Brodie Jones will defend Penrith's left side (which includes Viliame Kikau, Matt Burton and Brian To'o). Good luck Brodie," Johns said.<\/p>\n

Both Fittler and Johns tipped Penrith to continue their unbeaten start to the season.<\/p>\n
