Geelong's stuttering 2021 season has been dealt a fresh blow with Patrick Dangerfield<\/a> ruled out indefinitely by the club due to a syndesmosis injury.<\/p>\n

After serving a three-week ban<\/a>, Dangerfield made his long-awaited return to the field on Sunday in the Cats' win over North Melbourne, only to be faced with another lengthy stint on the sidelines.<\/p>\n

Geelong released a statement on Wednesday night confirming that the 2016 Brownlow Medallist would go under the knife following the injury, with his return date still to be determined.<\/p>\n

"Scans revealed a syndesmosis injury, and it was felt the best course of action was for Dangerfield to undergo surgery," the statement read.<\/p>\n

"Dangerfield will be out of action indefinitely, with his rehabilitation and recovery from the injury determining his return to play."<\/p>\n

The injury comes at an extremely inopportune time for the Cats, who have been unable to get their fully-fit line-up on the park together so far this season.<\/p>\n

Star recruit Jeremy Cameron will make his debut for the club in Round Six after being sidelined following the pre-season due to a hamstring injury.<\/p>\n

Fellow recruit Shaun Higgins played in the Cats' first three matches before fracturing his thumb against Hawthorn in Round Three. Higgins' return date is also to be determined.<\/p>\n
