Fallen AFL star Jonathon Patton was today watching on at a GWS training session less than a week after making a premature retirement from the game<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The former GWS and Hawthorn forward, the No.1 pick in the 2011 national draft, made a shock retirement from football on the back of a lewd scandal.<\/p>\n

The Hawks in January stood Patton down after the 27-year-old was accused by several women of sending them explicit photos and videos of himself.<\/p>\n

He spent time in hospital to help manage his mental health and announced his retirement via a statement released by Hawthorn last Friday.<\/p>\n

Patton is yet to speak publicly since news of the scandal broke.<\/p>\n

What he does next in his life is unclear, but he attended a Giants training session today to catch up with former teammates and colleagues.<\/p>\n

Patton watched the early stages of the training session before heading indoors.<\/p>\n

GWS coach Leon Cameron said he appeared to be in a happy state.<\/p>\n

"Clearly he's had a tough time over the last couple of months. He's put his hand up about some of the things he probably got wrong," Cameron told reporters.<\/p>\n

"He's been a Giant for eight years.<\/p>\n

"It's great to see him and we wish him all the best in his next phase, because footy is only eight or 10 per cent of your life.<\/p>\n

"You want to make sure you have a really fruitful life after you finish with footy.<\/p>\n

"When he popped in today and saw some of the players, you could see that smile on his face."<\/p>\n

Patton's 95-match career was hampered by three knee reconstructions he underwent as a Giant and several soft-tissue injuries he suffered as a Hawk.<\/p>\n

He played 89 games with GWS in the years spanning 2012-2018, before signing with Hawthorn ahead of season 2020 but adding only another six matches.<\/p>\n
