Australian UFC star Robert Whittaker has his eyes set on a rematch with middleweight champion Israel Adesanya following a dominant win in the main event of UFC Fight Night in Las Vegas.<\/p>\n

Whittaker, a former UFC middleweight champion, produced a commanding overall performance against American Kelvin Gastelum, earning a unanimous decision win (50-45, 50-45, 50-45).<\/p>\n

Despite finishing the contest with a number of bumps and cuts on his face, Whittaker was in full control for the entire five-round fight as he outclassed the American with a wide range of jabs and kicks.<\/p>\n

Today's win was the perfect way to kick off the year for the 30-year-old, who hadn't competed since last October when he defeated Jared Cannonier.<\/a><\/p>\n

"I feel on top of the world," Whittaker said after the fight.<\/p>\n

"Obviously, this was a very hard fight. I think a lot of people were selling Kelvin short for where he was in the rankings.<\/p>\n

"He's one of the best fighters in the division, and that was a tough fight."<\/p>\n

But not long after the fight, Whittaker's attention quickly turned to Adesanya, the New Zealand UFC star who famously pinched the middleweight title from Whittaker in 2019<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Whittaker said he hoped to get a rematch with Adesanya in Australia once border restrictions eased.<\/p>\n

"(Adesanya) is a great fighter. But I think it's about time we crossed paths once again," Whittaker said.<\/p>\n
