South Sydney prop Tom Burgess came up with the play of the game when he crossed over for the match-winning try in Golden Point as the Rabbitohs defeated the Wests Tigers 18-14<\/a>.<\/p>\n

During the first set of Golden Point, South Sydney found themselves just 30-metres out from the try-line on tackle four, with what appeared to be the perfect opportunity to kick a field goal as halfback Adam Reynolds got into position for the moment.<\/p>\n

With Reynolds in position to take a field goal attempt on tackle four, Damien Cook out of dummy-half instead went with a short pass to Burgess, who had a giant hole open up as a number of Wests Tigers defenders charged up expecting the Rabbitohs playmaker to be given the ball to strike.<\/p>\n

Instead, Burgess sprinted away and crashed over under the posts to score the game-winning try.<\/p>\n

But after Burgess placed the ball down for the try, referee Gerard Sutton allowed play to continue, with concerns the ball slipped out of the prop's hand before making contact with the ground.<\/p>\n

Tigers halfback Luke Brooks then went the length of the field due to the play continuing, and scored under the posts before the bunker overruled and deemed Burgess' effort to be the winning play.<\/p>\n

"There have been over 100 Golden Point games and you will never forget how this one has ended," commentator Dan Ginnane told Fox League.<\/p>\n

"The most dramatic finish you can imagine and it's Tom Burgess, the most unlikely of try-scorers.<\/p>\n

Rugby league great Corey Parker added: "It's a cruel game!"<\/p>\n

Burgess touched on the final play after the game<\/p>\n

"They told me to run straight and there was a gap through the middle and I wasn't passing," Burgess said after the game.<\/p>\n

"We tried to get into good field position for the field goal, but then I saw daylight in front of me and it was a pretty good feeling.<\/p>\n

"I felt downward pressure there, so I was surprised when I saw Brooks run away and they gave the try to them. It's good they overturned it."<\/p>\n

The Tigers had control of the game for much of the second half when they led 14-6.<\/p>\n

It was a try to Dane Gagai in the 66th minute, followed by a two-point field from Reynolds, which ultimately levelled the scores before the game went to Golden Point.<\/p>\n
