Brisbane Broncos<\/a> coach Kevin Walters has shown his first sign of frustration with the roster he's inherited in a fascinating press conference that probed the difficult first five weeks of the season for him and the club.<\/p>\n

Pressure is mounting on Walters early in his three-year contract due to ugly on-field results, which have seen him lead his team to just one win from the opening five rounds.<\/p>\n

The only team the Broncos have beaten are the woeful Bulldogs, with that performance overshadowed by a 40-6 thrashing at the hands of the Storm and a 35-6 belting at the hands of the Rabbitohs over the last fortnight.<\/p>\n

Dale Copley (Titans), John Asiata (Cowboys) and David Mead (Catalans) are the only players who've joined the Broncos during Walters' reign.<\/p>\n

Going in the other direction just before Walters got his hands on the keys were red-hot talent David Fifita (Titans) and former Origin star Jack Bird (Dragons).<\/p>\n

"I felt like I have had control since the moment I walked in," Walters said.<\/p>\n

"It is obviously not my roster as such that I selected, but I am working with these guys.<\/p>\n

"They are a good bunch of guys to work with and we will continue to make them better and improve them in the areas that we need to improve over the season."<\/p>\n

Walters' next mission is to lead his side to victory over premiership favourites the Penrith Panthers, who've strung together 22 regular-season wins in a row.<\/p>\n

Walters sent a stern message to his troops ahead of the clash when he axed multimillion-dollar playmaker Anthony Milford<\/a>, whose poor form has long been a topic of fierce debate.<\/p>\n

Five-time Broncos premiership-winner Walters has also dropped young centre Tesi Niu for Jesse Arthars, while veteran second-rower Ben Te'o is set to miss at least 12 weeks after suffering a biceps injury.<\/p>\n

Walters had a curious way of summing up his team's position early in the season.<\/p>\n

"We are Round Five of 25 so we are a quarter of the way," Walters said.<\/p>\n

"If you look at a cake there is still three quarters of the cake to eat, so that's what excites me."<\/p>\n
