American golfer Billy Horschel has apologized after footage of his on-course meltdown at The Masters<\/a> went viral on Monday.<\/p>\n

Horschel says he may have gone too far when he was caught slamming his golf clubs repeatedly into his bag after a disappointing hole during the final round.<\/p>\n

"I am and have always been a fiery competitor. Unfortunately, the fire inside me sometimes runs hot when I'm not getting the most out of my game," said Horschel, who shot a four-over 76 on Monday to finish in a tie for 50th.<\/p>\n

"This leads to some instances where my conduct is not what I wish to show, especially as a role model to the younger generation.<\/p>\n

"I apologise to Augusta National, the Members of the Club and to the patrons for any conduct that may have crossed the line. I am always trying to improve and do better; as a golfer, husband, father, or as a human being. Thank you The Masters for a memorable week!"<\/p>\n

Horschel's meltdown was just one part of a noteworthy weekend for the 32-year-old who in the third round slipped down a bank, falling on his backside, before somehow saving par by hitting a shot out of the creek onto the green.<\/p>\n

Horschel, who captured the WGC Match Play Championship two weeks ago, would eventually finish his week at Augusta with a double bogey on 18.<\/p>\n

The American wasn't the only one who lost his cool at Augusta. Si Woo Kim snapped his putter in a moment of anger and Brooks Koepka swore at a reporter after he was asked how disappointing it was to miss the cut.<\/p>\n
