Melbourne Storm star Ryan Papenhuyzen<\/a> says coach Craig Bellamy apologised to him after stating that James Tedesco<\/a> was the best fullback in the NRL.<\/p>\n

After winning the Clive Churchill Medal in last year's NRL grand final, Papenhuyzen's star has continued to rise, with his four-try performance against the Broncos<\/a> in Round Four confirming his status as one of the game's best young players.<\/p>\n

When pressed about Papenhuyzen's rise after the game by reporters, Bellamy stated that the Roosters star was still the best No.1 in the game<\/a>, and was worried that he'd offended his young star by saying so.<\/p>\n

It was then that the legendary Storm coach picked up the phone and called the 22-year-old to ease any tension that could have arisen from the media sit-in.<\/p>\n

"He wasn't sure if his comments were the right thing to say or not, he thought he'd might have said he'd preferred Teddy or something along those lines," Papenhuyzen said.<\/p>\n

"I think he wasn't sure about what he said last week and he called me up to say he definitely had my back and I said, 'mate, I saw the article, I'm happy you even gave me a rap'."<\/p>\n

While Papenhuyzen has enjoyed a meteoric rise over the last few seasons, Tedesco is still the incumbent fullback for both the Blues and Australia.<\/p>\n

The two star fullbacks will go head-to-head on Friday night when the Storm host Tedesco and the Roosters at AAMI Park on Friday night.<\/p>\n
