As more and more Australians make their mark in the professional wrestling industry<\/a>, one 150kg force soon could be the biggest name of them all.<\/p>\n

South Australia's Bronson Reed, who represents both Samoa and Australia, in just over 24 months has become one of the biggest names in the WWE, featuring regularly now on the company's NXT show.<\/p>\n

After spending more than a decade chasing his WWE dream, which included wrestling on independent promotions across 13 different countries, the 32-year-old wrecking-ball will now compete for the NXT North American championship belt after coming out victorious at a recent WWE NXT event.<\/p>\n

But as Reed gets ready for a crack at holding up some WWE bling, he revealed his more than a decade-long journey to the infamous professional wrestling company tested him so much, he nearly threw everything away.<\/p>\n

It was the intervention of his wife, who he met during his teens, that convinced him not to.<\/p>\n

\"Bronson<\/p>\n

"As hard as it was, there were a lot of times I doubted myself ever getting somewhere like the WWE, or it felt unattainable," he told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

"But I couldn't change the way I did it. I think a lot of superstars and pro wrestlers have that moment where you have family, or friends telling you, 'hey maybe it's time to look at doing something else.'<\/p>\n

"There was a point a year or two before signing to the WWE, that I was considering in the next year or so to pack it in. I wasn't sure if I was going to get to where I wanted to be and I wasn't sure if it was going to be attainable.<\/p>\n

"I was very lucky to have my wife Paige, who's been with me since we were teenagers, she always I believed in my dream.<\/p>\n

"And she was the one who pushed me to continue doing what I was doing, which I'm grateful she did that because it worked out."<\/p>\n

Reed's independent wrestling journey included stints all around the likes of Australia, Japan, Germany, England and North America before his WWE dream came to fruition at the start of 2019.<\/p>\n

The Samoan Australian entered the independent professional scene back in 2007, but was forced to spend more than five years convincing the WWE he was "undeniable" after they knocked him back on several occasions starting in 2014.<\/p>\n

"I was on their radar as of 2014, which was the first time I did a try out with them," he added.<\/p>\n

"They signed [Australian duo] Billie Kay and Peyton Royce<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"From there they told me to keep doing what I'm doing and perfecting my craft.<\/p>\n

"They liked what they saw but they wanted me to do more<\/p>\n

\"Bronson<\/p>\n

"I continued to do that, and at the end of 2016 I did a second try out and that's where they saw a lot of growth and that's when they wanted to sign me. I got into the process of doing that, then things didn't work out.<\/p>\n

"I wasn't sure if I was going to sign. So again, I continued to travel around the world and make myself undeniable, so there was no reason they shouldn't sign me.<\/p>\n

"Then by the start of 2019 I had succeeded in what I thought would work out – trying my hardest and they signed me."<\/p>\n

Reed is now a weekly feature on WWE NXT, but behind the scenes, he's moved his way up and is mentored by legend of the industry, four-time WWE world champion Shawn Michaels.<\/p>\n

Like many WWE superstars, Reed is a regular at the company's performance centre in Orlando, Florida, where he works alongside the greats of the industry to perfect his craft.<\/p>\n

"The performance centre is like nowhere else in the world, you get to learn from so many great minds," Reed said.<\/p>\n

"You go through a bunch of different coaches, guys like 'Scotty 2 Hotty', and at the moment I'm lucky I've moved up to be coached by Shawn Michaels – for me that is crazy, I'm such a huge fan of wrestling, huge fan of Shawn Michaels.<\/p>\n

"He's Mr WrestleMania. I grew up watching him. Now he becomes my coach and I learn things from him that are invaluable and that have really helped me.<\/p>\n

"He can pick what's best for you. He knows how Bronson Reed should work and how to work in this environment.<\/p>\n

"He sees wrestling completely different to everyone else."<\/p>\n
