Karmichael Hunt<\/a> wants to play five-eighth for the Brisbane Broncos and has backed Tom Dearden as the club's long-term halfback.<\/p>\n

Former premiership star Hunt, 34, is playing for Broncos feeder club Souths Logan but is adamant that he could still thrive in the NRL.<\/p>\n

He hasn't played first grade rugby league since 2009, due to stints in AFL and rugby union, but the dual international believes that he can do a job as Brisbane struggle to find a winning formula.<\/p>\n

"Absolutely, no doubt whatsoever … I definitely feel I've got plenty of impact left in me, that's for sure," Hunt told Fox Sports.<\/p>\n

"I'd prefer to play in the halves, at six and get my hands on the ball. I understand it's what is best for team.<\/p>\n

"I'd love to play six. I think it just suits my game. I can use my vision and creativity and passing skills and kicking.<\/p>\n

"I'm quite reliant on the halves seeing the space [by playing in the centres for Souths], but I've been roaming around a little bit and going and finding some ball and popping up where I need to."<\/p>\n

Hunt was tried at halfback for Brisbane in 2007, sometimes filled-in at No.6 for Darren Lockyer and played five-eighth for Queensland in the 2008 State of Origin opener. He made his name in rugby league, however, as a fearless fullback; becoming the youngest-ever Bronco with an NRL debut at age 17.<\/p>\n

Brisbane are currently playing maligned $1 million per season star Anthony Milford at No.6. Hunt is staying ready for a chance.<\/p>\n

"I'm definitely preparing and training and playing as if like I want to make that [NRL return] happen," Hunt told Fox Sports.<\/p>\n

"It's not all in my hands. It might not be at the Broncs. There's plenty of injury opportunities popping up."<\/p>\n

Now in his twilight years, Hunt played alongside Dearden at Souths Logan earlier this season and was impressed by the young No.7, saying he had "a ton of potential".<\/p>\n
