They emphasized that it was up to the umpire to decide whether the act of the fielder to distract the batter was willful or not.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Law 41.5.1 states: &#8220;It is unfair for any fielder wilfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batsman after the striker has received the ball,&#8221; MCC tweeted.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"550\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Law 41.5.1\u00a0states: \u201cIt is unfair for any fielder wilfully to attempt, by word or action, to distract, deceive or obstruct either batsman after the striker has received the ball\u201d<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/MCCLaws?src=hash&amp;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#MCCLaws<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/gUXoBM9ZJ5\">pic.twitter.com\/gUXoBM9ZJ5<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&mdash; Marylebone Cricket Club (@MCCOfficial) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MCCOfficial\/status\/1378788275373146113?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 4, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>In another tweet, it said: &#8220;The Law is clear, with the offence being an ATTEMPT to deceive, rather than the batsman actually being deceived. It&#8217;s up to the umpires to decide if there was such an attempt.
