Leon Cameron<\/a> could be in his last season as the coach of the GWS Giants<\/a> if he is unable to take his side into the finals, according to veteran AFL reporter Caroline Wilson.<\/p>\n

After missing the top eight last year<\/a>, Cameron's side faces an uphill battle to reach the finals this season, having started the 2021 season in the dreaded 0-2 hole.<\/p>\n

Giants powerbrokers have backed Cameron publicly, but Wilson suggested that the wins and losses will ultimately dictate whether he stays on as coach beyond 2021.<\/p>\n

"We all think deep down that if this doesn't improve, this will be Leon's last year as senior coach of GWS," she told Nine's Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"If they finish in the bottom six or eight, I don't think he'll be there next year."<\/p>\n

Wilson's comments come after Cameron's Giants were put to the sword by a young Fremantle side on Sunday, with the 31-point margin flattering the Giants in the end.<\/p>\n

Cameron conceded that his senior men could face the axe as a result of their performance, and Port Adelaide great Kane Cornes was equally scathing.<\/p>\n

"This was a coach-killer in every sense, this performance," he said.<\/p>\n

\"Josh<\/p>\n

"Fremantle with their young side and the injuries they've got, for the Giants to serve up what (we saw) is a shocking look for Leon. <\/p>\n

"He was already under pressure and performances like that don't do him any help whatsoever. It's the same players: Coniglio, Ward, Hopper, Kelly (and) De Boer."<\/p>\n

"This was a real concern for Leon, his players just aren't working for him," Essendon great Matthew Lloyd added.<\/p>\n

"During the (2019) Grand Final time they were absolutely brutal, and Leon should get credit for that, but they're not playing that way anymore." <\/p>\n
