{"id":51034,"date":"2021-03-28T22:39:48","date_gmt":"2021-03-28T22:39:48","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=51034"},"modified":"2021-03-29T02:00:04","modified_gmt":"2021-03-29T02:00:04","slug":"convicted-hayne-could-be-wiped-from-nrl-history","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/sportinfo.pro\/?p=51034","title":{"rendered":"Convicted Hayne could be wiped from NRL history"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"https:\/\/wwos.nine.com.au\/jarryd-hayne\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Jarryd Hayne\">Jarryd Hayne<\/a>&#x27;s individual accolades are on the verge of being stripped following his sexual assault conviction.<\/p>\n<p>The former NRL star was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.9news.com.au\/national\/jarryd-hayne-guilty-of-sexual-assault\/0b8b72b0-4da5-46c4-bff4-192aa07640ea\" target=\"\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"found guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent\">found guilty of two counts of sexual intercourse without consent<\/a> last week, with a sentencing hearing scheduled for May 6 in Newcastle.<\/p>\n<p>Hayne has made it known that he intends to appeal the conviction but should he be unsuccessful, NRL officials believe they will have no choice but to strip the 33-year-old of his rugby league honours, according to Nine NRL reporter Danny Weidler; writing in his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.smh.com.au\/sport\/nrl\/pressure-builds-on-nrl-to-scrap-disgraced-hayne-s-honours-20210327-p57emb.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" title=\"Sun Herald column\">Sun Herald column<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A judge told the former Eels player last Monday that jail time is &quot;inevitable&quot; following his convictions.<\/p>\n<p><img data-id=\"20364367-00c7-4209-8ef8-bbdc929a5ef4\" src=\"https:\/\/prod.static9.net.au\/fs\/20364367-00c7-4209-8ef8-bbdc929a5ef4\" alt=\"Jarryd Hayne poses with the Dally M Award at the 2009 Dally M Awards held at the State Theatre on September 8, 2009 in Sydney, Australia.\" data-width=\"1396\" data-height=\"785\" \/><\/p>\n<p>It&#x27;s understood the game wants to completely distance itself from Hayne, so that the prestige of the Dally M Medal and the Brad Fittler Medal aren&#x27;t damaged.<\/p>\n<p>Hayne&#x27;s list of achievements includes: Two Dally M Medals (2009, 2014), Rookie of the Year in 2006 and three Brad Fittler Medals (2007, 2008 and 2014).<\/p>\n<p>But the decision could be met with some resistance after Dally Messenger III, grandson of the rugby league Immortal, said Hayne&#x27;s NRL achievements should stand.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;I think the punishment Jarryd receives from the law and from the NRL is enough,&quot; he told Weidler.<\/p>\n<p>&quot;From my point of view, his achievements should not be wiped from history and his name should still be present on the awards he has won. In no way am I condoning anything he has done or is alleged to have done.
