Baseball's newest star, Australian Travis Bazzana, revealed the exact moment he was left completely "speechless" after meeting his childhood idol on the MLB<\/a> field. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Speaking to Nine's Today<\/em>, Cleveland Guardian's second base<\/a> recounted the surreal moment he realised he was being complimented by Philadelphia's Bryce Harper, the player Bazzana grew up idolising.<\/p>\n

"It's kind of wild. I had one of those pinch myself moments the other day. I actually got speechless," Bazzana explained.<\/p>\n

"One of my favourite players growing up, his name is Bryce Harper and he plays with Philadelphia.<\/p>\n

\"Travis<\/p>\n

"He got to second base and immediately complimented me. He was (saying) 'it's fun watching you play, the way you the way you swing it's amazing,' and I was thinking I would be the one complimenting him.<\/p>\n

"Then, I went speechless because I was (thinking) 'now what do I say? He's happy to see me play.' That was incredible.<\/p>\n

"It's a new joyous moment every day."<\/p>\n

The Major League Baseball season is a 162-game marathon, meaning the focus for most players is staying healthy enough to make a postseason run.<\/p>\n

Bazzana, currently in the midst of a stellar rookie season, is already firmly in the conversation for the MLB Rookie of the Year award.<\/p>\n

\"Travis<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old has turned heads with a string of breakout performances, including launching three home runs in his rookie season. <\/p>\n

"It's obviously a great feeling and you just hope to continue that (hitting home runs). It's a long season. We probably got 110 games left on the schedule so, things change," explained Bazzana.<\/p>\n

"I've played about 30, 110 more (to go), just got to keep the consistency and show up every day, try to stay healthy and stick to the process.<\/p>\n

"I'm 25 games of performance behind some other guys, considering I didn't start on the opening day roster this season. That's fun stuff to think about (MLB Rookie of the Year).<\/p>\n

"If I can stay healthy and stick to what I can do, it'll be in the picture."<\/p>\n

While baseball remains a niche sport in Australia compared to cricket or rugby league, Bazzana's rise to the professional leagues from the 2024 number one draft pick is bound to create a wave of interest among younger Aussie athletes.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old \ufeffexplained the feeling of hitting a home run in front of a sold out crowd in Cleveland, saying it's a "perfect feeling" as an athlete.<\/p>\n

"It's probably one of the best feelings there is. I don't know; I'm trying to think of something that would be a similar feeling," Bazzana tried to explain.<\/p>\n

"Nothing else matters in that moment then that perfect feeling and everyone's obviously celebrating. That's what it's all about."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
