Collingwood<\/a> could face an uphill battle to keep Nick Daicos<\/a> long-term as the potential for an "appealing" future move away from the club.<\/p>\n

Daicos has cemented himself as one of the AFL's best players in recent years and is signed with the Magpies until the end of 2029.<\/p>\n

However, his contract status hasn't stopped question marks about the 23-year-old's future beyond his current deal, especially with the new Tasmania Devils<\/a> franchise.<\/p>\n

Speaking on Nine's Footy Classified<\/em> on Monday night, journalist Sam McClure was asked whether there was any doubt \ufeffwhether Daicos would remain a one-club player, following in the footsteps of his father and Collingwood legend, Peter.<\/p>\n

His response would raise some eyebrows for Pies fans.<\/p>\n

\ufeff"There is absolute doubt," McClure said.<\/p>\n

"We know what Tasmania is gonna do to the draft in the next few years and the Collingwood list profile is gonna be very different in 2028 and 2029.<\/p>\n

"Nick is a guy that is very savvy with his career. He's not gonna hang around just because his dad was a legend of the club, if they don't look like they're gonna win flags.<\/p>\n

"Nick and the people around Nick are very well aware that he is a once in a generation player \u2026 it means you want to be contending for premierships as often as possible.<\/p>\n

"Nick is gonna end up at some point behind the highest-paid player in history. What happens after 2029 is dictated by what Collingwood are able to do with their list.<\/p>\n

"He's close with Gary Ablett and he's very interested in what he did with the Gold Coast Suns and to be face of a new franchise [in Tasmania] could be appealing."<\/p>\n

Jimmy Bartel<\/a> was quick to push back and question whether Daicos is actually in the box-seat to get the best possible deal to remain with Collingwood.<\/p>\n

"You said Nick is incredibly savvy – isn't this part of the savinnes, to have the idle threat that you up and leave? It actually makes Collingwood come to the table, treat it as a normal negotiation and don't just treat it as your father-son," the AFL great said.<\/p>\n

"Isn't it just part of good management to make sure they do the deal correctly?<\/p>\n

"I don't see him leaving and I don't see him holding Collingwood over a barrel, but it's just smart business."<\/p>\n
