The NRL<\/a> is investigating Penrith's handling of an alleged Mad Monday incident involving former Panthers player Daine Laurie.<\/p>\n

Laurie, who now plays for Canberra<\/a>, had reportedly been due to face Penrith Local Court after police allegedly caught him with an illicit substance the morning after Penrith's preliminary final loss to Brisbane in September.<\/a><\/p>\n

According to reports, police officers inspected a vehicle, where Laurie was the passenger and allegedly found 0.37 grams of cocaine.<\/p>\n

The court date had been set for\ufeff November 10 but police withdrew the charges prior to his day in court.<\/p>\n

It's understood new laws introduced by the NSW government meant Laurie could have been issued a $400 on-the-spot fine instead of facing court.<\/p>\n

Laurie's team reportedly opted for the fine.\ufeff<\/p>\n

The NRL is investigating whether Penrith should have reported the matter to the integrity unit.<\/p>\n

A Panthers representative confirmed to AAP the club had been working with the league on the matter in the lead-up to Friday's round-one clash with reigning premiers Brisbane.<\/p>\n
