Former Australian opener Marcus Harris<\/a> has benefited from a shift in the batting order for Victoria, hitting a century against Tasmania on day three of their Sheffield Shield<\/a> clash.<\/p>\n

Harris wasn't the only Victorian who reached the milestone with his teammate Campbell Kellaway scoring 147.<\/p>\n

It's Harris that will bring the most attention though as Australia searches for an opener.<\/p>\n

However, the 33-year-old has made a shift to the middle order, batting at No.3 in the first innings and scoring 11 before moving further down to No.6 due to a sore back and finishing 101 not out.<\/p>\n

Victoria declared at 5-330 with Tasmania 1-28 at stumps needing 327 runs to win.<\/p>\n

Harris explained to reporters the change in the batting order came from a conversation earlier this year.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"I went to Huss (head of cricket Dave Hussey) and Buck (coach Chris Rogers) at the end of the season in my review \ufeffand said I'd be interested in trying something different and I knew I was going to go away for six months and bat at four (in county cricket) so I was open to trying something different if they were open to it too," he said.<\/p>\n

"We landed in the middle … I've enjoyed it, it's been nice to not have to run off and have at least have five minutes to put your pads on."<\/p>\n

At 33, time isn't on Harris' side when it comes to the Australian side but any rise in form will put him firmly in contention.<\/p>\n

Australia has trialled a number of players up the top, with Steve Smith, Nathan McSweeney and Marnus Labuschagne having a crack despite not being specialised openers.<\/p>\n

Sam Konstas is a specialist opener but his Test spot hangs by a thread.<\/p>\n

Harris believes there is merit to have a specialist.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"With the way the pitches are \ufeffaround the country it's quite a tricky spot to bat," he said.<\/p>\n

"Having someone up there that's batted there a bit probably helps. Opening is a tough thing if you haven't done it before … I don't know where they'll land on it."<\/p>\n

While Harris is at the back end of his career, Kellaway is the opposite and has had big wraps on him as a batter.<\/p>\n

The 23-year-old and Harris put on 195 runs together which could bat Tasmania out of the game.<\/p>\n

"It was hard work, I was trying to commit to batting for a long period of time and see if I could wear \ufeffdown the bowlers over the course of the day and felt like scoring opened up a bit more over the second half of the day," Kellaway told reporters.<\/p>\n

"Harry and I put on a nice little partnership there, it's good fun batting with him."<\/p>\n

In Victoria's innings, Beau Webster finished wicketless from his 11 overs. \ufeff<\/p>\n

After Steve Smith and Kurtis Patterson scored centuries for NSW against Queensland on day two of that match, it was a chance for the Bulls' Aussie contenders to impress.<\/p>\n

Usman Khawaja top scored with 87 while Marnus Labuschagne was gone for four. Matt Renshaw couldn't capitalise on his start, scoring 29 before he was bowled.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIn the other match between Western Australia and South Australia, McSweeney put his name in lights with a century at No.3 while Henry Hunt hit 84.<\/p>\n
