Look for the Dragons<\/a> to be among the biggest players in the open market once November 1 rolls around.<\/p>\n

While most clubs have already filled their 30 man NRL rosters for 2026, the Dragons still only have around 26 full time players on contract.<\/p>\n

That puts Shane Flanagan in a great position to pick up some bargain buys – and the Dragons could use some bolstering in a couple of key positions after a disappointing campaign in 2025.<\/p>\n

One player certain to be in hot demand is Souths' forward Keaon Koloamatangi, who made an impressive Test debut for the Kangaroos at Wembley last weekend.<\/p>\n

For some reason, Souths haven't signed him beyond next season and he will be flooded with offers once Saturday comes around.<\/p>\n

DCE CIRCUS NEARS CONCLUSION<\/strong><\/h2>\n

I'm hearing the Daly Cherry-Evans to the Roosters circus will finally come to an end after the November 1 transfer deadline.<\/p>\n

Manly are still paying the veteran halfback's wage until October 31 and so no-one is in any hurry to announce the move to Bondi Junction.<\/p>\n

But once deadline day passes this Saturday, expect the game's worst-kept secret to be finally released.<\/p>\n

DCE is expected to play one last season for the Roosters and then replace another halfback great, Cooper Cronk, as the club's playmakers coach.<\/p>\n

MANLY HIRES AFL COACH\ufeff<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Manly<\/a> are set to break new ground by bringing a leading former AFL coach into their organisation in a leadership role and to work on their kicking and catching skills in 2026.<\/p>\n

With the bomb proving a lethal weapon in the NRL in recent seasons, clubs are acutely aware of the importance of placing high kicks with pin-point accuracy and having their wing men flying high to take the ball.<\/p>\n

With that in mind, the Sea Eagles have signed former Carlton performance guru Aaron Greaves in a Head of Coaching and Leadership role.<\/p>\n

Greaves has an impressive resume in the AFL, having played for Geelong before transitioning into coaching with both Carlton and Port Adelaide.<\/p>\n

He is expected to work closely with new Sea Eagles halfback Jamal Fogarty and tall winger Jason Saab, who could form a potent combination on the kick-catch.<\/p>\n

"We think he could be great for us," a Sea Eagles source told Wide World of Sports.<\/p>\n

Could the Broncos have found another Gehamat Shibasaki for 2026?<\/p>\n

Burleigh Bears prop Takitau Mapapalangi is a 22-year-old who proved a real weapon in the Queensland Cup this season and like Shibasaki 12 months ago, has been given a train and trial deal for the summer.<\/p>\n

An aggressive ball runner, Mapapalangi scored seven tries in 14 games last season – a pretty good strike rate for a front-rower – and Broncos officials will monitor his progress over the coming months with plenty of interest.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
