The boxing<\/a> world is again mourning the death of a fighter, following news Ghanaian boxer\ufeff Ernest Akushey died 11 days after losing a fight.<\/p>\n

Akushey, 32, was beaten by Jacob Dickson in eight rounds in the Ghanaian capital, Accra, on September 12.<\/p>\n

Local reports claim\ufeff Akushey complained of feeling unwell 10 days after the bout and his condition deteriorated rapidly leading to his passing on September 23.<\/p>\n

In the fight against Dickson, Akushey took a lot of punishment\ufeff and was knocked down late. He made the count but was seen stumbling around the ring, before Dickson began landing more blows as the referee stopped it.<\/p>\n

Following the fighter's passing, WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman released a statement.<\/p>\n

"The WBC mourns this irreparable loss and extends our deepest sympathies to Ernest's family and many friends."<\/p>\n

The fighter who defeated Akushey, Dickson, also paid tribute in an emotional post.<\/p>\n

"I'm deeply shaken and heartbroken to hear about the passing of Ernest Akushey (Bahubali)," he wrote on Instagram.<\/p>\n

"Though we stood on opposite sides, I always recognised your strength, your courage, and the fire in your spirit. We may have been opponents, but you earned my respect in every way that mattered.<\/p>\n

"To know that you are no longer here \u2026 it feels unreal. It's a heavy loss \u2014 not just to those who knew and loved you, but to everyone who ever witnessed your fight, your heart, your humanity.<\/p>\n

"Life can be cruel in its timing. One moment we clash as rivals, the next we mourn as humans. \ufe0fMay your soul rest peacefully bro."<\/p>\n

The National Sports Authority in Ghana has urged stakeholders in the sport and the public to remain calm while they conduct an investigation.<\/p>\n

Akushey made his professional debut in 2019 and boxed all of his career out of Ghana and amassed an undefeated record of 6-0 until the loss to Dickson.<\/p>\n

The Ghanaian fighter\ufeff becomes the fourth boxer to pass away following a fight in 2025.<\/p>\n

In August two fighters on the same card died in Japan.<\/p>\n

Shigetoshi Kotari suffered a bleed to the brain in his draw with Yamato Hata. Five days after the fight, Kotari was pronounced dead.<\/p>\n

The grief was compounded when \ufeffHiromasa Urakawa, who fought on the same bill, suffered a bleed to the brain and died after a knockout loss.<\/p>\n

In February,\ufeff Irishman John Cooney died a week after losing to Nathan Howells.<\/p>\n

Cooney suffered a brain injury and had surgery to relieve the pressure \u2013 but tragically died.<\/p>\n
