The youngest Selwood sibling is stepping away from football \ufeffindefinitely following the tragic deaths of his older brothers Adam and Troy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Troy Selwood died in February and his twin brother Adam died in May, both by suicide.<\/p>\n

\ufeffThe fourth brother, Geelong champion Joel<\/a>, will present the AFL<\/a> premiership cup on Saturday if the Cats beat the Lions.<\/p>\n

On Thursday, Collingwood announced Scott Selwood will quit his position as assistant coach of the AFL team.<\/p>\n

The 35-year-old plans to travel overseas and explore opportunities outside football.<\/p>\n

"Twelve years in the system as a player and six as a coach has been some of the best years of my life," Scott Selwood said via a club statement.<\/p>\n

"It has been a personally challenging year for me so the timing feels right to take some time for myself away from football.<\/p>\n

"I want to thank Collingwood for allowing me to coach the game I love. To experience premiership success with the people who have become second family to me will always be a special memory.<\/p>\n

"There is so much to love about this club but I know what I'll miss most is the people I've been fortunate to work with across the journey and the feeling I got walking across the MCG and hearing the chant of the great Magpie Army.<\/p>\n

\"Joel<\/p>\n

"A special mention to Fly (head coach Craig McRae) for giving me an opportunity as an assistant coach. You have a great care for your people and I thank you for your support, kindness and friendship."<\/p>\n

Selwood played 169 AFL games for West Coast and Geelong over a 13-year career.<\/p>\n

He joined the Magpies immediately after retiring from his playing career, initially as a development coach before becoming an AFL assistant coach in 2021.<\/p>\n

He was a key member of the staff in 2023 when the Magpies won the premiership, working primarily with the midfield group.\ufeff<\/p>\n
