Snoop Dogg said he was honoured to be in Australia, as part of an awkward five-minute media interview\ufeff ahead of the AFL grand final.<\/p>\n

The AFL hand picked the reporters allowed to attend Thursday's media event with the controversial music sensation, and other members of the pre-game entertainment including Baker Boy and Mike Brady.<\/p>\n

Hamish McLachlan hosted the media event and interviewed the rapper, but even those invited to attend weren't allowed to ask questions.<\/p>\n

The AFL has held similar events in previous years with the likes of Katy Perry and KISS\ufeff, but they have taken questions from the floor and engaged with reporters.<\/p>\n

However, this chat went for just over five minutes before some applause and the artist being ushered from the stage alongside AFL chief Andrew Dillon. \ufeff<\/p>\n

He was briefly intercepted by Hawthorn Brownlow Medallist Robert "Dipper" Dipierdeminco for a selfie on the way out.<\/p>\n

Snoop Dogg has been criticised for homophobic remarks made on a recent podcast<\/a>, and in previous years.<\/p>\n

Naturally, he wasn't asked about the controversial aspects and instead fielded generic questions ahead of the performance.\ufeff<\/p>\n

He said to expect "classic Snoop Dogg"\ufeff on Saturday.<\/p>\n

"I respect this culture and I appreciate you for allowing me\ufeff to perform," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt's always been a warm welcome from me and I just want to let everyone know that I appreciated you for allowing me to perform on this stage with a couple of family members as well."<\/p>\n

\ufeffSnoop Dogg added that he has enjoyed learning more about the sport of Australian rules football.<\/p>\n

"I just fell in love with the sport. I always \ufeffwould watch it, but never really understood it," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffIt reminded me of American football, rugby and a couple of other things, but now that I understand it, I like it and want to know more about it before the grand finale."<\/p>\n

Yes, "grand finale".<\/p>\n

Nine's Tony Jones, who has been publicly against the announced entertainment<\/a>, was not invited to the press event.<\/p>\n

"I don't think the AFL's prepared to take the risk. I have been a vocal opponent of this whole engagement of Snoop Dogg. I don't get why they've done it. I thought they would've learned their lesson with Meat Loaf, but no, we're going down that path again. It remains to be seen what this bloke can do," Jones told Nine's Today<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"Even as I was waiting to come on the show, people from the AFL came out and said 'don't go too hard'. They promise it will be an extravaganza."\ufeff<\/p>\n

The hypocrisy was pointed out \ufefffollowing Adelaide star Izak Rankine's suspension for a homophobic slur directed at a Collingwood player.<\/p>\n

The four-game ban could have hypothetically ruled Rankine out for the same grand final Snoop Dogg will be performing at.<\/p>\n

The AFL and the rapper held another media event on Wednesday, featuring Collingwood stars Nick and Josh Daicos.<\/p>\n

The 53-year-old took the field on the MCG, taking shots on goal and posing for photos.\ufeff<\/p>\n
