Ardie Savea will captain the All Blacks in Saturday's Bledisloe Cup opener against the Wallabies<\/a> after Scott Barrett was surprisingly ruled out with a shoulder injury.<\/p>\n

Barrett led New Zealand \ufeffin their record loss to South Africa in Wellington<\/a> and it hadn't been reported that the lock was in doubt for the clash with Australia at Eden Park.<\/p>\n

His absence means Tupou Vaa'i and Fabian Holland will form a relatively inexperienced second row while the experienced Patrick Tuipulotu is on the bench after recovering from injury.<\/p>\n

Many Kiwi supporters feel Savea should be leading the team anyway and \ufeffformer All Blacks manager Darren Shand said Barrett appeared burdened by the responsibilty.<\/p>\n

Shand worked with the team for 20 years between 2003-23.<\/p>\n

"Looking from the outside, the captaincy looks heavy on Scott for me, I think that's one thing they've got to think about," he told Sport Nation's The Rugby Run<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"Sometimes captaincy lifts you and sometimes it crushes you, and it looks more of the latter for me at the moment."<\/p>\n

All Blacks coach Scott Robertson has, however, been boosted by the returns of his two leading halfbacks in \ufeffCam Roigard and Cortez Ratima.<\/p>\n

Robertson has also been able to name Test centurion Codie Taylor (concussion) at hooker and Caleb Clarke (ankle) on the left wing.<\/p>\n

\ufeffAustralia lead the Rugby Championship but have not beaten the All Blacks at the venue since 1986.<\/p>\n
