It&#x27;s his first hard-court semi-final appearance at a major since winning his first grand slam title at the US Open in 2023.<\/p>\n<p>Alcaraz is just 22 years old and is in the semi-finals at a major for the ninth time. Alcaraz would supplant Jannik Sinner \u2014 whom he lost to in the Wimbledon final and beat in the French Open final \u2014 atop the rankings if he wins the US Open for a second time.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s really difficult not to think about it,\u201d Alcaraz said. \u201cEvery time that I step on the court, I am trying not to think about it. If I think about the No.1 spot too much, I think I\u2019m going to put pressure on myself and I just don\u2019t want to do that. I just want to step on the court, try to do my things, try to follow my goals in the match and try to enjoy as much as I can. She and No. 8 Amanda Anisimova are the only Americans left in the women&#x27;s singles field.<\/p>\n<p><img data-video-id=\"6378199347112\" src=\"https:\/\/vms-network-images-prod.s3-ap-southeast-2.amazonaws.com\/2025\/09\/717839\/pickerimage.jpg\" alt=\"Quarter Final Highlights | Jessica Pegula vs Barbora Krejcikova\" data-vms-id=\"ref:cmf2xmv9d00020hmut2huys6o\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Krejcikova knocked out one of them, Taylor Townsend, who failed to convert eight match points when they met in the quarter-finals on Sunday. Pegula was not perfect, but she played well enough to stay in control at all times and broke Krejcikova one final time to end the match in under 90 minutes \u2014 on her first match point attempt.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe had a couple really good returns when I was serving at 4-1,&quot; Pegula said. \u201cWe all saw what she did against Taylor, so I was happy that we\u2019re done.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pegula will face\ufeff defending champion Aryna Sabalenka, who got back to the final four without hitting a ball when her opponent in the quarter-finals, Marketa Vondrousova, withdrew from their match with an injury.<\/p>\n<p>Vondrousova, the 2023 Wimbledon champion, pulled out of the tournament a couple of hours before she was supposed to face No.1-seeded Sabalenka.<\/p>\n<p>The clash with Pegula is a rematch of last year\u2019s championship match at Flushing Meadows, which Sabalenka won in straight sets.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\"><p>Carlos Alcaraz finger-wagged the crowd, beat Jiri Lehecka to the net and cruised into the semifinals at the US Open.
