N\ufeffine's Eddie McGuire has revealed Adelaide Crows star Izak Rankine will miss the rest of the season with the AFL to hand down a five-match ban for his homophobic slur against a Collingwood player<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"His season is finished in 2025," McGuire said on Footy Classified.<\/p>\n

"The Adelaide Football Club and Izak Rankine \ufeffwill have the opportunity to appeal the sanction and try and get it reduced because they could argue that it is manifestly unjust.<\/p>\n

"They will have the next 24 hours, or 12 hours at least, to decide whether or not they mount an appeal."<\/p>\n

The Crows are \ufeffcurrently first going into the final round but now face an uphill battle come finals time without one of their best players. <\/p>\n

Adelaide great Rory Sloane \ufeffadmitted the length of the ban was expected.<\/p>\n

"That's a devastating result for the footy club, it's probably not surprising though," he said.<\/p>\n

"I think the general feel from the club since they found out was this was always going to be the case. <\/p>\n
