Swedish pole vault superstar\ufeff Armand "Mondo" Duplantis broke the men's world record for the 13th time in another awe-inspiring display on Wednesday (AEST), just over a year after winning Olympic gold in Paris where he improved the mark for the ninth time.<\/p>\n

On that night in the French capital, Australian pole vault legend Steve Hooker, the 2008 Olympic gold medallist, watched on from his commentary position at the Stade de France and noted that gravity seemed to work a little differently for "Mondo".<\/p>\n

And so it seemed again as Duplantis looped over a bar set at 6.29 metres at\ufeff the Hungarian Athletics Grand Prix in Budapest to pencil in his latest world record.<\/p>\n

Duplantis added one centimetre to his previous world record \u2014 the 6.28m he had set in front of home fans in Sweden in June<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In fact, he's added precisely one centimetre to the world record on all 13 occasions he's set a new mark, beginning with the time he vaulted 6.17m in Poland in 2020 to break Frenchman Renaud Lavillenie\ufeff's 6.16m, posted in 2014.<\/p>\n

It's in Duplantis' best financial interests to only go up a centimetre at a time given he's paid \ufeffa bonus of USD$50,000-100,000 by World Athletics every time he sets a new world record, as well as undisclosed bonus sums by Red Bull and Puma, who sponsor the 25-year-old.<\/p>\n

Duplantis shared a podium at the Hungarian Grand Prix with Greek Emmanouil Karalis, who recorded 6.02m, and Australia's Kurtis Marschall, who registered 5.82m.<\/p>\n

Two years after claiming bronze at the world athletics championships in Budapest, Marschall will be aiming to again win a medal at the world titles in Tokyo next month.<\/p>\n

\ufeffIn Budapest on Wednesday (AEST), Duplantis raised the bar from 6.11m to 6.29m.<\/p>\n

He was unsuccessful in his first attempt at 6.29m but nailed the task with his second go, putting the crowd in raptures.<\/p>\n

Karalis, the runner-up in Budapest, lifted Duplantis in front of an applauding crowd and flashing cameras, and the Swede and Greek shared a big hug.<\/p>\n

\u201cI love the crowd, I want to come back,\u201d Duplantis said. \u201cThank you.\u201d<\/p>\n

Duplantis won gold at the Tokyo 2021 and Paris 2024 Olympics.\ufeff<\/p>\n

Third on the all-time pole vault list is Ukrainian legend Sergey Bubka, who cleared 6.15m in his home country in 1993.<\/p>\n
