Five years ago, J.D. Martinez was a third-year big leaguer struggling to find his way. <\/p>\n
He probably thought nobody was watching his Instagram account. And, back then, maybe nobody cared about Martinez\u2019s social media posts, circa 2013. <\/p>\n
These days, though, the Boston Red Sox slugger, who is hitting a league-best .337 and has 38 homers and 110 RBIs, is being watched like a hawk \u2014 he has 228,000 followers on Instagram \u2014 and his past transgressions on social media are resurfacing. <\/p>\n
Like a photo of Adolf Hitler that he posted to Instagram on Jan. 13, 2013, complete with the quote \u201cTo conquer a nation, first disarm it\u2019s (sic) citizens.\u201d <\/p>\n

\u201cThis is why I always stay strapped! #thetruth,\u201d Martinez, clearly a pro-gun advocate, said in the post. <\/p>\n
It\u2019s not the first time Martinez has ruffled feathers in the Big Apple \u2014 he signed a five-year, $110 million deal with the city\u2019s biggest baseball rivals, the Red Sox, last off-season \u2014 but his old post has caused a stir, particularly in the New York tabloids. <\/p>\n
In addition to the Hitler post, fingers are being pointed at one he posted on U.S. election day in 2012. <\/p>\n
\u201cObama will grab the early lead Tuesday, until the Republicans get off from work,\u201d the post read. <\/p>\n
The revelations come just six days after Martinez, a 20th round draft pick of the Houston Astros out of Nova Southeastern University in 2009, turned 31 years old. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
