Harry Connick Jr. has vowed not to watch the Super Bowl after his football team missed out on a place in the big game. <\/p>\n
On Sunday, the New Orleans Saints were narrowly defeated by the Los Angeles Rams, meaning they won\u2019t be playing at the Super Bowl next month. <\/p>\n
While Saints fans were disappointed, New Orleans native Connick felt especially let down by the National Football League\u2019s officiating during the game. And he let NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell know just how angry he was in an open letter on Instagram. <\/p>\n
\u201cDear Commissioner Goodell,\u201d he began. \u201cPlease know that I would have written this letter regardless of which teams were playing in the NFC championship.\u201d <\/p>\n
He went on to say that he loves the game of football, but there were glaring errors during Sunday\u2019s game. <\/p>\n
\u201cTo not call the pass interference\/helmet-to\/helmet penalties at the end of the game was one of the most disgraceful no-calls I have ever seen,\u201d the singer wrote in reference to Rams\u2019 Nickell Robey-Coleman\u2019s break up of a pass to Saints wide receiver Tommylee Lewis. <\/p>\n
He adds that, in his opinion, the officiating has been mediocre all season. <\/p>\n
\u201cBut for a game as important as the NFC (National Football Conference) championship, it sickens me to know that the people who are assigned to fairly officiate the game seemingly had no regard for not only a dangerous penalty but one that would certainly have changed the outcome of the game, \u201c he vented. <\/p>\n
\u201cUntil changes are made, specifically booth review of outcome-altering non-calls, you can count me out. I\u2019m not watching the AFC championship game, and I won\u2019t be watching the Super Bowl.\u201d <\/p>\n
Connick added in a note to his followers that he also plans on mailing the letter on Monday. <\/p>\n
The Los Angeles Rams will take on the American Football Conference champion, and five-time Super Bowl winners, New England Patriots at the 2019 Super Bowl. <\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
