(Maddie Meyer\/Getty Images)\" \/><\/p>\n<p> UFC star Conor McGregor is under investigation for sexual assault in his native Ireland. <\/p>\n<p> Just hours after announcing his retirement from mixed martial arts, it has been reported the fighter was arrested in January amid accusations he assaulted a woman at the Beacon Hotel near Dublin in December. <\/p>\n<p> McGregor, who has not been charged with a crime, was released after questioning, but police officials have recovered evidence from the room he stayed in, as well as security camera footage, according to Page Six. <\/p>\n<p> The allegations previously went unnoticed because of strict Irish laws banning reporters from identifying people charged with rape. <\/p>\n<p> McGregor, who welcomed his second child in January with longtime girlfriend Dee Devlin, announced his retirement as a fighter on Tuesday morning, tweeting: \u201cHey guys quick announcement, I\u2019ve decided to retire from the sport formally known as \u2018Mixed Martial Art\u2019 today. I wish all my old colleagues well going forward in competition.
