Through the program, children are able to connect to mentors, museums, science labs, mental health and wellness sessions, and much more.

Now in its second year, the Tech4Good tournament is a two-day event that brings together people with a passion for hockey, with each team raising money to earn their place in a “draft” of NHL alumni to join them on the ice.

This year’s event will once again bring former NHL star and seven-time Stanley Cup champion Bryan Trottier back to the rink.

Trottier played 18 seasons in the NHL for the New York Islanders and Pittsburgh Penguins — he won the Stanley Cup four times with the Islanders, two with the Penguins and one as an assistant coach with the Colorado Avalanche. In 2017, Trottier was named one of the ‘100 Greatest NHL Players’ in history.

Known as Canada’s most decorated Indigenous athlete, Trottier now spends his time traveling to Indigenous communities to teach kids about his heritage as well as giving lessons in leadership development.

For the second year in a row, Trottier is turning to National Bank Financial executive Sean St. John as one of the team captains to rally friends and colleagues in support of Connected North and to raise awareness for the charity.

St. John and Trottier first connected at the Road Hockey to Conquer Cancer in 2011, where the two not only shared a passion for the game, but also for giving back.

As captain of one of the first teams on the Tech4Good leaderboard, St. John brought his focus and energy to the cause, helping to raise an impressive $16,700 for the first Tech4Good Hockey Tournament, which raised over $300,000 for the program overall.

Trottier believes Connected North can help make sure that Indigenous children in the remote north have access to the resources they need.

“I believe that there is huge value in making sure that Indigenous kids in the remote north have access to the resources they need – we have to do all we can to support their success and allow them to share their voice and their culture – and video is a great way to do it,” Trottier said. “That’s why I am proud to support Connected North through the Tech4Good tournament in 2019. And I am thrilled to see key supporters from last year like Sean St. John lacing up their skates, too. Together, we are making a positive impact on Indigenous communities across Canada.”

Today, the Connected North network serves nearly 10,000 students across 42 schools in all three territories and five provinces, with many more schools interested in the program’s services.

In addition to Bryan Trottier, NHL alumni participating in this year’s Tech4Good event include Brad May, Rick Vaive, Tom Fergus, Ric Nattress, Gary Leeman, and Nik Antropov, among others.

Fans wishing to attend the Tech4Good hockey tournament can enter by making a $5 donation at the door, helping to raise critically needed funds to enable Connected North to serve more communities and add more schools and students to its network.

Bound by the love of the game and the commitment to strengthen educational opportunities for children in the north, on April 27 300 players, including […]

[1
