With the news that Brad Fittler<\/a> is now out of the running for the Kangaroos coaching job, NRL<\/a> legend Cam Smith<\/a> has reaffirmed his interest in learning more about the role. <\/p>\n

Mal Meninga<\/a> has departed from the position as he takes up the coaching job with the Perth Bears<\/a>, leaving a vacancy that must be filled ahead of the Ashes.<\/p>\n

Fittler revealed he was removing himself from the race on Monday<\/a>, citing a desire to focus on other commitments. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Smith\ufeff, who played for Australia 56 times, however, is still keen for a chat about how the role would look and whether he would be able to fit it into his existing schedule.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffWell yeah, absolutely, I think I'm keen to have a conversation with someone about the role and what the role will entail," Smith told Nine's 100% Footy<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI still haven't spoken to anyone at the NRL, anyone involved with the (ARL) Commission at all.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffI think we all assumed (Brad Fittler) was going to be the next Kangaroos coach, so it is all breaking news for us today.<\/p>\n

"I think for me,\ufeff if I was to take on the role or even consider taking on the role, I'd have to have a conversation with someone about what the role would entail, what the commitments would be.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffBut it's a wonderful opportunity to be able to coach our country. I was lucky enough to play for Kangaroos many, many times.<\/p>\n

"To be able to coach such a wonderful team full of wonderful footballers would be a great opportunity."\ufeff<\/p>\n
