Des Hasler's new deal with the Manly Sea Eagles<\/a> will be the last coaching contract he ever signs in the NRL.<\/p>\n

The rugby league icon is on the verge of inking a new two-year deal that will see him lead the Silvertails until the end of the 2023 season, and according to Nine's Danny Weidler, it will mark the final time Hasler coaches in the NRL<\/a>.<\/p>\n

"Just before Christmas he reached a hand-shake agreement with Manly to stay for two more years," Weidler told Nine's 100% Footy <\/em>last night<\/a>.<\/em><\/p>\n

"The contracts were then shipped off to lawyers. They probably took longer than expected to sort that out because Manly were trying to announce it at their pre-season launch. That didn't happen.<\/p>\n

"Instead, his new deal is going to be announced this week by the club. Des is happy about it.<\/p>\n

"The other interesting thing I'm hearing about it is that this will be the last coaching contract that Des Hasler ever does.<\/p>\n

"I think after two more years at Manly, that will be it. He may then move into a big kahuna role or a coaching coordinator type role where he oversees the club. But I think this will be the last coaching deal that Des does."<\/p>\n

It opens the door to an intriguing scenario for Hasler who is understood to have agreed to transition to a front office position with the Sea Eagles once his coaching tenure comes to an end.<\/p>\n

The capacity in which he will continue at the club is unclear, however, it appears Hasler's legacy on Sydney's northern beaches will continue to grow for years to come.<\/p>\n

Last night, Weidler first reported news of Hasler's impending contract extension<\/a> after days of speculation following a stunning 46-6 walloping at the hands of the Roosters during the NRL's opening round over the weekend.<\/p>\n

Hasler is currently in the final year of a three-year deal with Manly. It's been a rocks-and-diamonds coaching return to his former club. The Sea Eagles were knocked out in the second week of the finals in 2019, before finishing a disappointing 13th last season.<\/p>\n
