Port Adelaide chairman \ufeffDavid Koch<\/a> is "eyeing off" one of the most powerful jobs in the AFL<\/a>, reports Damian Barrett, who says the Power figurehead wants Richard Goyder's job as AFL chairman.<\/p>\n

Goyder, the former Qantas chairman, currently holds the AFL chairman role and has done so since 2017, when he took over from Carlton<\/a> champion Mike Fitzpatrick.<\/p>\n

The Age reported in late 2024<\/a> that Goyder is seeking another term as AFL chairman, which would see him in the role until 2028.<\/p>\n

Goyder's ambition to stay on reportedly came as news to most clubs, who were of the belief he would step down when his term expired in early 2026.<\/p>\n

However, if he does step aside, Barrett believes the Port Adelaide<\/a> chairman and former TV star could make a play for the role, which would lead to further instability at the Power, given the looming departure of coach Ken Hinkley.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"David Koch, along with Ken Hinkley, has transformed this footy club from what it once was, but \ufeffhe is eyeing off a potential spot on the AFL commission as well," Barrett told Nine's Footy Classified<\/em>.<\/p>\n

"Not just a spot on the commission, but \ufeffpotentially to be the chair of it.<\/p>\n

"After serving the game admirably as a commissioner since 2011 and chairman since 2017, it's simply time for Richard Goyder to pull up stumps, this year. At worst, orchestrate a 12-month handover to the incoming chairman, who can get to work immediately," Healy told SEN.\ufeff<\/p>\n

"Ultimately, Richard Goyder has been at the helm of the game for nine years and on the commission for over 14. Much has been achieved, and he should be proud of his contribution, but it's now time to go."\ufeff<\/p>\n
