A\ufeff professional football<\/a> club in Bulgaria was forced to apologise after mourning a player who is not dead.<\/p>\n

Arda Kardzhali marked the death of Petko Ganchev ahead of their game against Levski Sofia at the weekend.<\/p>\n

Players from both teams lined up on either side of the halfway line, stood arm in arm and bowed their heads before kick-off.<\/p>\n

Spectators in the crowd were asked to do the same.<\/p>\n

\ufeffHowever it was barely an hour later – when the game was still in progress – that Arda Kardzhali posted to the club's Facebook page.<\/p>\n

"The management of PFC Arda would like to express a huge apology to the former Arda player Petko Ganchev and his relatives after the club received wrong information about his death," the club wrote.<\/p>\n

"We wish Petko Ganchev many more years of good health and to enjoy the success of Arda."<\/p>\n

They are not the first organisation to mistakenly mourn a person who was still alive.<\/p>\n

The AFL last year awkwardly farewelled Richmond legend Michael Porter<\/a> during the Brownlow Medal ceremony.<\/p>\n
