Josh Giddey<\/a> could be on the verge of inking a monster new deal as the Australian star continues to impress on the court for the Chicago Bulls<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The 22-year-old is currently on a four-year contract worth \ufeffroughly $42 million AUD but could be set for a remarkable pay rise in the off-season.<\/p>\n

Having starred for the Bulls since the All-Star break, Giddey has pushed his case to become the team's starting point guard.<\/p>\n

So far this season, Giddey has had four consecutive 20-point double-double games,\ufeff averaging 13.8 points, 7.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game.<\/p>\n

Between February and March, the young gun has managed to lift his average to 23.1 points, with a 52.5 per cent success rate from the three-point range. \ufeff<\/p>\n

Giddey failed to receive a new deal from the Bulls before the NBA's rookie contract extension deadline late last year, meaning he will become a restricted free agent at the end of the current season.<\/p>\n

Despite not receiving an extension, it has been reported that Giddey could remain in the Bulls' colours next season as the club has the rights to match any offer he is tabled when he hits the open market.<\/p>\n

Veteran NBA reporter Brian Windhorst that he expects the Bulls will look to re-sign Giddey on a $47 million AUD deal per season – an upgrade on his current deal. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"This is the kind of play I thought he would have all year," Windhorst told ESPN.<\/p>\n

"His role was sort of limited. After the trades they've opened up his role (and) this is the player he can be. The going rate for a starting point guard in the NBA is around thirty million dollars (USD) … and he is their starter.<\/p>\n

"If you look at a guy like Immanuel Quickley, he got five years and $162 million ($257 million AUD) – that's about $32 million \ufeff($50.8 million AUD) a year.<\/p>\n

"I'm sure Josh Giddey's hoping for something like that."<\/p>\n

Windhorst noted that Giddey is "not quite the scorer" that Quickley is so should likely expect to receive a deal of a slightly lesser \ufeffvalue.<\/p>\n

But the main question for Bulls remains on whether they sign Giddey on a one-year deal and make him play for a long term deal.<\/p>\n

If the club were to take that option into next season, it would see him begin negotiates as an unrestricted free agent.<\/p>\n

Given the club paid a large sum to land Giddey at the expense of Alex Caruso, Windhorst believes a new deal would only make sense for the Bulls. \ufeff<\/p>\n

"If they do see (Giddey) as their point guard of the future – and that's why they traded Alex Caruso – then I would expect them to try and invest in him," he said.<\/p>\n

"\ufeffLast year, this was the same situation with Patrick Williams on their team. He was a restricted free agent. They signed him on July 1st to a five-year long contract.<\/p>\n

"I expect them to try do something with Giddey, but it has been puzzling why they kept his role narrow early on.<\/p>\n

"I will bet on Josh Giddey and I will bet on him getting a very long contract, whether he gets it this year or has to wait another year and end up as an unrestricted free agent."<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
