Nick Kyrgios<\/a> has been selected for Australia's Davis Cup<\/a> team for the first time in five years ahead of their\ufeff qualifying tie against Sweden on January 31.<\/p>\n

The 2022 Wimbledon finalist was a shock selection by captain Lleyton Hewitt despite showing no interest in the competition since he last played against Belgium in November 2019.<\/p>\n

During an interview with AAP in 2022, Kyrgios said he opted out of the competition because he felt he was not embraced by Australia, leading him to play in a lucrative exhibition event in Saudi Arabia instead.<\/p>\n

But he was named on Monday by Hewitt alongside Alex de Minaur, Jordan Thompson and Thanasi Kokkinakis.<\/p>\n

Hewitt can add another player to the team before the tie in Stockholm.<\/p>\n

Kyrgios is poised to contest the Australian Open next week.<\/p>\n

Speaking after his three-set loss to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in Brisbane last week, Kyrgios said he was unsure how his wrist injury would hold up in Melbourne.<\/p>\n

"I think I almost need a miracle, and I need, like, the stars to align for my wrist to hold up in a grand slam for sure," he said.<\/p>\n

The Australians will play at the Royal Tennis Hall in the Swedish capital against Swedish number one is Elias Ymer, ranked No.327.<\/p>\n
